3 East Asian Content Creators That Will Change The Way You Cook

by Donna Yuen

In honour of Asian Heritage Month, I wanted to spotlight 3 incredible food content creators, who also happen to be East Asian. Talented, dedicated, and authentic, check these folks out as they’ll be sure to fine tune your home cooking skills.

Made With Lau - YouTube

Creator 1: Made With Lau (YouTube channel | website)

This YouTube channel primarily features a dynamic father and son duo with complimentary skills. Daddy Lau is an immigrant Cantonese speaking retired chef with 50 years of cooking experience in Chinese restaurants. His son, Randy Lau, albeit a novice home cook (at the start of their journey), is a brilliant producer and the creative force behind the brand and videos.

When Randy lost his job due to Covid-19, he pivoted and embarked on launching Made With Lau with his dad as a way to preserve and share stories about Asian culture and dishes. Their unlikely partnership and hard work has yielded massive success. To date, since starting in September 2020, they’ve garnered a growing global audience of 706K followers to date!

Week over week, the Laus share a new recipe with the world. It is incredibly wholesome and educational watching them cook familiar Chinese dishes on my device. Their videos have taught me a lot about Chinese cooking, and made me fall back in love with the cuisine as I introduce it into my dinner table with Rob. Thank you, Randy & Daddy Lau for showing us how to tackle Chinese cuisine!

By now, you’re likely familiar with the Instant Pot – the viral cooking appliance that gained popularity due to its lightning speed cook time and multifunctional abilities.

Knowing that the Instant Pot can prepare pulled pork in half the time is great, but… how long do you cook it for?

This is where Amy & Jacky of Pressure Cook Recipes comes in.

This husband and wife duo have produced hundreds of Instant Pot recipes ranging from mains to desserts. Their dedication to testing recipes is second to none. Sometimes making things 17 times like the time they made their cheesecake.

Why You’ll Love Them:

  1. Their dedication to recipe testing. By the end of the blog post, they’ll gain your trust that their final recipe is written to perfection.

3) Creator 3: Woks of Life

This blog is run by yet another family – Bill & Judy, and daughters Sarah and Kaitlin (I’m seeing a trend in this post)! Since 2013, this family of four has been sharing their recipes with the world. Their popularity has grown year after year, and this Fall, they’ll be releasing their first cookbook

While their blog is fairly new to me, I stumbled across them when I was Googling Asian sauces at T&T and stumbled on their post which I found to be very thorough and helpful. Since they’ve, I’ve heard other creators mention them, so I’m hoping to find a recipe to try soon.

Why You’ll Love Them:

  • The user experience of the website is awesome. From beautiful photography to the “Jump to the Recipe” feature, the site is created with the end user in mind.
  • Surprise Me Button – Located on the right handle bar of their homepage, this unique feature brings you to a random recipe. If you’re someone who has a hard time making decisions, this solves your problem!
